The Essence of Team D3’s Culture 

Every great team is anchored by its values, but defining and embedding those values is no small feat. At Team D3, this culminated in what we now call The 22—a collection of principles that encapsulate who we are and guide how we collaborate. Here’s the story behind its creation, evolution, and ongoing impact. 

A Moment of Transition 

The seeds for The 22 were planted during a time of growth in Team D3’s history. By 2021, we were over a year into blending the cultures between D3 and MG-AEC. Then, as ECAD was joining, the leadership team realized there was a need to establish a unified cultural framework. They began reflecting on what characteristics and values would make up an ideal team player and how we could create a cohesive, thriving unit to bring D3, MG-AEC, and ECAD together. The idea around The 22 wasn’t just about creating a list of “must haves”; it was about capturing what it means to be part of our team. 

Through brainstorming sessions, the leadership team collected input from various team members within the company. Responses ranged from single words to paragraphs, capturing traits like humility, collaboration, and initiative. The result? A list of 22 characteristics that define the unique DNA of our organization. 

A Quiet Beginning 

The 22 started with a subtle, organic launch. Managers were asked to reflect on the principles during weekly meetings, discussing what each value meant to them, where they saw it in action, and how it could shape the future of their individual teams. These discussions were designed to invite personal interpretations and real-life examples. 

This grassroots approach allowed The 22 to grow naturally. Some managers incorporated it into their team meetings, asking employees to present on the values and share how they resonated with their work. Over time, The 22 became more than just a list—it became a living, evolving part of our culture. 

The Power of Simplicity 

Why 22? At first, the number felt overwhelming—too much to remember, let alone live by. But that’s precisely the point. The 22 isn’t meant to be memorized or recited; it’s a resource, a toolkit that employees can draw from as needed. 

With principles ranging from “Seek to Understand”, “Take Initiative”, and “Have a Positive Impact”, it’s become a list that team members can pluck from. Whether you’re navigating a client relationship, tackling a new project, or mentoring a teammate, there’s likely a principle within The 22 to guide you.
